Task 1

The Moving Body

Subject Matter: Explore and construct a narrative using movement and gesture.

Project Aim: Present a moving image piece that documents how the body moves in a space and the power behind gestures as a way of communicating ideas.

Medium: Moving Image

Success and Impact: I think it was successful in terms of creating an personal documentation of my Grandmother's struggles during lockdown. The piece was impactful on the audience as they were made to feel empathy and in some cases sympathise with the subject.

Threshold Concept: Creating a relationship between the viewer and the subject through feeling an emotion.

Body Politics

Subject Matter: Explore and investigate the politics of the body.

Project Aim: By first reflecting on yourself and then exploring wider concepts, construct a series of images that responds to body politics.

Medium: Photography and text

Success and Impact: Evaluating others and creating a comparison proved most effective in creating an impact.

Threshold Concept: The relationship between the work and society in terms of publication.

40 Hours

Subject Matter: The human condition uses times in order to give our lives structure and routine.

Project Aim: Undertake two assignments for which the time period of the assignment is inherent in the work you make.

Medium: Documentation and photography

Success and Impact: I intended the work to be an evaluative piece of people's thoughts over time. As an outcome it was not successful but was interesting in terms of how each person perceived the project task.

Threshold Concept: I moved away from photography but then discovered it was where I succeeded most.

Alternate Universes

Subject Matter: Concepts such as sci-fi suggests there could be parallel or alternate universes. Are we alone? Is our universe unique?

Project Aim: Consider your own reality and environment and create your own alternate universe.

Medium: Photography, Text, Graphic Design

Success and Impact: Created a narrative through my universe using consistent layouts and images that encouraged further thinking.

Threshold Concept: Developed understanding of layout and aesthetic designs.

Publication

Subject Matter: Self-publishing has long been a popular way for communication designers to disseminate their work, theirs views or ideas.

Project Aim: Using an extract from the British Sound Archive, create a publication which translates a visual and tactile form, evaluating and presenting the meaning in today’s context.

Medium: Publication, physical book

Success and Impact: to be completed.

Threshold Concept: Photography is not my only way of communicating my ideas visually and aesthetic. I am not limited by it.
